HARMAN Breaks Down Functional Silos Through Business Acumen and Supply Chain Simulations

Challenge

Breaking down functional silos to build end-to-end business thinking

HARMAN operates in a fast-moving, technology-driven industry where customer expectations, operational complexity, financial performance, and supply chain decisions are tightly connected.

In this environment, good decisions are rarely made from one perspective alone. Sales Support, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams all influence how value is created, how resources are used,
how customers are served, and how efficiently the business performs. Yet in any complex  organization, it is easy for people to become focused on their own part of the process.

HARMAN wanted to strengthen a broader way of thinking. The aim was to help employees understand not only financial terminology and supply chain concepts, but also how their
everyday decisions affect the whole business.

Solution

Combining finance and supply chain simulations into one connected learning
experience

A 1.5-day learning journey was used, combining CELEMI Apples & Oranges Manufacturing Sales™ and CELEMI PartnerStock™.  CELEMI Apples & Oranges Manufacturing Sales™ helped participants explore the financial logic of a manufacturing and sales environment.

Through the simulation, participants could see how sales choices, cost structures, production decisions, working capital, and customer priorities affect profitability and cash flow. The value of the experience was not in explaining finance as theory. It was in making the
business visible. Participants could move from abstract terms to concrete consequences. They could see how costs behave, how profit is created, how cash can become tied up, and why decisions that look attractive from one angle may create pressure elsewhere.

CELEMI PartnerStock™ then extended the learning into dealing with common supply chain challenges and applying supply chain best practices. Participants gained insights around the importance of information transparency, cross-functional collaboration, identifying and resolving root causes of demand variation, applying the right buffer strategies, identifying bottlenecks of the system, and thinking like business owners.

The simulation made trade-offs tangible. It showed that supply chain performance is not aboutoptimizing one variable in isolation but about understanding the wider system

Results

Finance and supply chain became part of the same business story

Together, the two simulations created a powerful connection. Finance became more than numbers. Supply chain became more than flow and inventory. Both became part of the same business story.

Participants were not passive learners. They discussed, tested, disagreed, adjusted, and reflected.

They experienced the business as a system, where decisions are connected and where collaboration matters.
